Living in a Des Moines apartment offers many benefits like having a landlord or community manager who handles things like plumbing emergencies, landscaping, and other details that you might need to handle if you owned a home. Keeping your home clean, however, is a responsibility that you can’t avoid whether you live in an apartment or your own home or condo.
Although there are some people who do enjoy cleaning, most of us don’t like to take the time out of our days to deal with cleaning. Fortunately, there are quite a few helpful tips you can use to keep your apartment clean without being chained to a vacuum and having to carry a dustpan and broom around everywhere you go.
Here are a few tips you may want to use the next time you get ready to clean your apartment or when it’s time to get to some spring cleaning in Des Moines.
Kitchen Cleaning Tips & Tricks
Some advice from Woman’s Day suggests working your way around the kitchen in a circle to clean:
“Always begin on the right side of your stove, then move clockwise around the room. The stove is typically the dirtiest part of the kitchen, so ending with it keeps you from spreading dirt and grease. (First, soak drip pans and knobs in warm soapy water. By the time you’ve worked your way around, they’ll be easier to clean.)”
As you clean your way around the kitchen, make sure to pay special attention to the sink. Although you use soap often while using the sink, it’s actually a rather dirty area. You may want to consider using a disinfectant on the sink, or you can use your own, homemade cleansers.
Making the Bathroom Sparkle
Just like your kitchen, your bathroom gets a lot of use each day, and it’s important to make sure you clean the space regularly. A deep cleaning once a month is a great way to keep dirt and grime from building up, but it’s more important to do a little “spot cleaning” each day.
Additionally, it’s a good idea to clean areas that you might not regularly clean while you’re taking care of the bathroom. For example, how often do you scrub the shower curtain? If you have glass doors on your tub or shower, you probably clean those regularly, but we often forget to clean the plastic shower curtains, which can build up with soap scum and dirt.
Another area you might want to clean regularly is the floor in the bathroom. It’s easy to toss some cleanser into the toilet and wipe the sink down, but a lot of dirt ends up on the floor. Every time you brush your hair or use a styling product, some of it ends up on the floor and acts as glue for dirt and grime.
Consider Organizing Your Apartment
You might not realize it, but it’s not easy to clean an apartment that’s also cluttered. We’re not often afforded the same amount of space in an apartment that we might get in a house, so it’s important to keep things organized so that the apartment feels as spacious as possible.
If it’s been a while since you’ve gone through your closets, now might be the time to take care of some of your most crowded areas. Do you have clothes you haven’t worn in years? Do you own an extra set of plates or some old items from college? Now’s the time to donate, recycle, or sell them.
